Joe Dale Yocom, age 69, passed away at home unexpectedly Thursday night, January 27, 2022, from complications of Whipple Surgery for Stage 2 Pancreatic Cancer.

Born December 18, 1952, Joe was the only child of Alford Morgan "Red" and Bela Doris "Jackie" Summerhill Yocom from El Dorado, AR. Since his father passed away in 1972, he moved his mother to Jackson in 1997 to take care of her after she became ill, until her death on Sept. 14, 2001.

Joe met Diane Elizabeth Chapman on a blind date in 1991, after both moving to Jackson (Joe - July 1987 and Diane - December 1987) for jobs. They married July 26, 1997 in Lake Providence, LA., which this year would have been their 25th anniversary.

Joe graduated from El Dorado High School in 1971 and went on to receive a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Southern Arkansas University and also received a Masters of Business Administration in Accounting from Louisiana Tech University.

Joe worked for Peat Marwick and Mitchell and Commercial National Bank in Shreveport, LA. Then went back to school to work on his doctorate and taught school at Northeast Louisiana University, and was only a thesis short of receiving his PhD. Later Joe worked for Whitaker, Lipp and Healea in Monroe, LA (CPA) and moved to Jackson, MS. He was Director of IT for TEC (Telephone Electronics Corporation) from Jan 1994 - Dec 2019 for 26 years and then Information Technology Project Manager for TEC from Jan 2020 - Dec 2020.

He loved to share memories from his El Dorado teenage years with his best friends, Billy Manley and Steve Gates, and his cousins Layne Wright and David Hair. He thought so much of all of his cousins on the Yocom and the McAdoo side of the family. He loved talking about going to Aunt Martha's and Uncle Eddie's house in Farmington, N.M. He also loved talking about his dog "Ricky" from his El Dorado days with his one tooth sticking out, hopefully they are together again.

Lifelong Arkansas Razorback Football fan (he loved his piggies)! Expert in computers, electronics and financial matters, loved to work in the yard and an excellent repairman around the house. With his recent retirement (12/31/2020), he was looking forward to traveling, especially cruises.

Remaining behind to cherish Joe's memory is his wife, Diane; daughter, Morgan Leigh Yocom and husband, Joseph Jebara; and granddaughter, Gavie Leigh Stevens.

The family would like to give special thanks for Joe's primary doctor for many years, Dr. David Sullivan and also special thanks to his oncologist Dr. Bobby Graham, his GI doctor, Dr. Stewart Boyd and his surgeon, Dr. Andrew Mallette.

Special thanks to the Ridgeland Police Department, the ambulance service and all of the paramedics that worked on Joe.

The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 beginning at 1:oo PM with a memorial service to begin at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Parkway Funeral Home, 1161 Highland Colony Parkway, Ridgeland, MS.

Joe's wish was to be cremated and be brought home and when his wife, Diane passes, his urn be placed inside her coffin, so they will be buried together.
